Four men have been found guilty of murdering former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai, his driver and two bodyguards in February 2015.

The High Court ruled that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to prove that the four men were involved in the killings.

The suspects were identified as Eric Mungera Isabwa, also known as Chairman; Raphael Kimani Gachii, known as Kim Butcher; Mustafa Kimani Anyoni, known as Musto; and Stephen Astiva Lipo, also known as Chokore.

According to evidence presented in court, the four men were linked to several cases of carjacking and robbery in Nairobi and Kiambu before the murder. Investigators believed that these crimes helped them understand how the suspects operated and eventually connect them to the killings.

One of the important pieces of evidence was information recovered from mobile phones used by the suspects. Investigators examined their call records to establish who had communicated with whom before and after the murder.

The court heard that some of the suspects had exchanged more than 100 calls.Police also recovered a G3 rifle suspected to have been used in the crime from the home of one of the suspects. This became another important part of the investigation. To present its case, the prosecution called 36 witnesses, including people who had experienced carjackings believed to be connected to the gang.

After reviewing the evidence, the judge ruled that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and found all four men guilty of murder. The case shows how investigators can use witness statements, mobile phone records and other physical evidence to help solve serious crimes, even when the investigations take many years
